A pan-African fellowship program, set up in 2017, aimed at meeting the perspective needs of young people between the ages of 18 and 25. Through the transfer of knowledge, know-how, and knowing how to be together, ALFI and its partners build skills and entrepreneurial spirit among young people with the ambition to strengthen their employability and competitiveness through practical training to get the maximum onboard in a productive job.
It’s the first online incubation platform in Senegal and its aim is to incubate online beneficiaries of the ALFI Fellowship Program in an innovative approach throughout their lives. Thereby, young people can get trained, design their project, connect to their peers, learn many topics strengthen their technical and financial skills. It shares opportunities in real-time and has many groups related to local committees.
Each year, ALFI celebrates the occasion of Youth International Day with a pan-African event gathering hundreds of youth people across the country called the Youth Assembly Summit. It’s a great opportunity to hold a consultation with organization youth-led, decision-makers, artists, journalists, diplomats, governments, ministries raising youth issues, and solutions recommended to be considered in development programs.
In Senegal and everywhere in Africa, young people are asking for more participation in decision-making bodies and their facilitation in politics. Global Youth Voices allows young people to make pledges on a lot of topics that concern them through an article that they can share to inform their peers. The priority articles are also shared through newsletters to governments, the United Nations, NGOs, youth coalitions, etc.

When Senegal’s government put social distance measures in place, many professionals began working from home, start-up businesses halted their operations, and families lost income as a result of the spreading pandemic. Yet, for the USAID Youth in Agriculture project, these challenges provided an opportunity for youth to apply their positive development skills to helping their communities at a time when they need it the most.
The African Institute of Management (Groupe IAM), our esteemed partner, is acknowledging the commendable achievements of Mr. Babacar J. Diop, the Chairman of ALFI. He has been honored by the Institute of Public Policy and Diplomacy Research (IPPDR), as well as President Joe Biden, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to Africa. Mr. Diop has been instrumental in transforming the youth into catalysts for change, advocates for climate action, successful entrepreneurs, civic leaders, and dedicated journalists.
To maximize the SDG Summit’s impact, the Secretary General is convening an SDG Action Weekend, which will generate opportunities for stakeholders, UN entities, and Member States to convene inside the United Nations Headquarters and set out specific commitments and contributions to drive SDG transformation between now and 2030.
